Biography

Dr Eimear McGlinchey completed her PhD in Trinity College Dublin in May 2017, having initially completed her primary and masters degree in Psychology. Her primary area of interest is in the promotion and maintenance of cognitive health in people with an intellectual disability, with particular focus on the area of dementia in people with Down syndrome.

Eimear was lead researcher of the BEADS study: Brain Exercise for Adults with Downs Syndrome. This intervention study examined the effects of cognitive training on levels of executive function in adults with Down syndrome. Eimear has worked with the IDS-TILDA study for a number of years as research assistant, data manager and project manager of the accessible dissemination study "Getting the Message to the People that Matter".

Her other areas of interest include social inclusion and participatory methodologies as well as accessiblity and innovative dissemination. She has contributed to both the Masters and Undergraduate teaching programme in the School of Nursing and Midwifery and is a member of the curriculum development group for the new Masters on Ageing Health and Wellbeing in adults with intellectual disability. She has a number of publications and has disseminated widely through national and international conferences.
